About O'Neil Scott
O’Neil Scott is a self-taught artist based in Philadelphia, PA. Influenced by his grandfather and uncle, Scott began drawing at a young age. Though his education steered him away from his initial plans of studying art, Scott never lost his passion for art. It remains a vehicle in which he utilizes as a means to give voice to his innermost concerns. Inspired by the Old Masters as well as contemporary realists, Scott has always been captivated by portraiture and its capacity to impart the complexities that comprise the human condition. He transitioned from his works with acrylic to oil and dove deeper into his subject matter and thus focuses more heavily on issues such as social justice, climate change, police brutality, and the Black Lives Matter movement. At their core, Scott’s goal with his paintings are to invoke mindfulness, contemplation, and a strong level of empathy.
